The emphasis of church outreach of all kinds has been “come to church” or “come to the meetings.” That is the focus of all of our efforts and the basic message to the general public. That approach is simply not working in many places and with many kinds of people. The book City Reaching, by Jack Dennison, points out that we need a new approach—a “go to” approach in which church mission goes to people where they are. That is, after all, the example of Jesus who came down from heaven to incarnate the gospel message as a human being living in the midst of humanity.
