Seventy percent of Seventh-day Adventist Church members have a relative or personal friend who used to be an Adventist and has dropped out of the church. It is a sad reality, but for every person who regularly attends a Seventh-day Adventist Church there is at least one more person who used to attend and is no longer with us. We have become much more effective at bringing new people into the “front door” of the church than preventing exits out the “back door.”

There is a hole in the heart of many of our fellow believers, especially aging parents who lament that their adult children, who they took to Sabbath School faithfully, sent off to summer camp and Pathfinder Club activities, and enrolled in Adventist education, no longer participate in the church. There is deep concern for the grandchildren, many of whom are growing up completely unchurched.
